Alemán Llansó, Carles

Carles Alemán graduated in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona (Spain). He received his PhD from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in 1994, where he was promoted to Full Professor of Physical Chemistry. He was postdoctoral researcher at the ETH in Zürich (Switzerland) in the group headed by U.W. Suter and visiting professor at the Università di Napoli Federico II (Italy), University of Twente (Holland) and Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). He is leader of the Innovation in Materials and Molecular Engineering (IMEM) group in Chemical Engineering Department, Director of the Environment Center Laboratory of UPC and associated researcher to IBEC. Among others awards, Carles received the Catalan Government Distinction Award for University research (2003), the I3 Research Intensification Distinction (2007) and the ICREA Academia (2008). He is co-author of more than 600 scientific articles, reviews, book chapters and books, and more than 10 patents.

Arenas, Alex

Prof. Alex Arenas (Barcelona, 1969) PhD in Physics. He is full professor at Dept. Computer Science and Mathematics (DEIM), Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). In 2000 and 2008, he was visiting professor at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab. (LBL). He is editor in charge of Interdisciplinary Physics in APS Physical Review E. He got the J. McDonnell Foundation award for the study of complex systems in 2011. He was also recognized as ICREA Academia-Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats, in 2011 and 2017. He serve as Editor in J. of Complex Networks, J. of Computational Social Science and in Network Neuroscience. He is external faculty of the Complexity Hub Science in Vienna from 2017. In 2019, he was elected as Fellow of the American Physical Society. In 2020, he has was elected Fellow of the Network Science Society. During the COVID-19 pandemic he has been providing scientific advice to the Gobierno de España, and the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Aromí Bedmar, Guillem

Dr. Guillem Aromí graduated in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Barcelona (UB) and EHICS (Strasbourg, France), both in 1993. He earned a Chemistry PhD at Indiana University (1999, USA) and did posdocts at Leiden University (2002, Holland) with a Marie Curie Fellowship and at Manchester University (2003, UK). He became in 2003 a “Ramon y Cajal” Fellow at the UB, then Associate Professor in 2007 and Full Professor in 2018. He received the distinction of Research by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the prize ICREA Academia 2008, 2013 and 2018. He received, in 2011, an ERC Starting Grant and in 2012 he chaired the Vth International Conference on Molecular Materials. In 2018 he became Director of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the UB (IN2UB). He is the coordinator of Sciences of AGAUR (Catalan Agency of University and Research Grants). He represents the Catalan Chemical Society at the Inorganic Division of EuChemS.

Boguñá Espinal, Marián

M. Boguñá is a full professor at the Departament de Condensed Matter Physics, University of Barcelona. He graduated in Physics in 1994 and obtained his PhD in 1998. In 1999, he moved to the US to do a postdoctoral stay with Prof. G. H. Weiss at the National Institutes of Health, Washington DC. After this period, in 2003, he was awarded a Ramón y Cajal fellowship. He got the tenure position in 2008. During this period, he has also spent several months in the US as invited guest scientist at Indiana University. M. Boguñá has written over 80 publications in major peer reviewed international scientific journals: Nature, Nature Physics, Nature Communications, Nature Reviews Physics, PNAS, Phys. Rev. Letters, and Phys. Rev. X. In January 2008, he obtained the Outstanding Referee award of the American Physical Society. He was awarded as ICREA Academia researcher in 2010 and 2015. Since January 2013, he serves as an editorial board member for Scientific Reports.

Cacho, Isabel

Isabel Cacho is Associated Professor at the University of Barcelona since 2008. She graduated in Geology in 1992 and earned her PhD in 2000 at the UB. She was affiliated to the Godwin Laboratory from the University of Cambridge as a post-doctoral researcher from 2000 to 2003 and a fellow of the US-COMER Foundation during 2003-2004, associated to Columbia University. She has published over 80 research papers with more than 4500 citations. She has also been member of several national and international research committees. In 2016 she was granted with a prestigious ERC-consolidator grant. In 2018 she implemented in the UB a new and unique infrastructure in the state for the analysis of radiogenic and other rare isotopes, currently it is open to several scientific applications.
