Juana Díez is a Full Professor at the University Pompeu Fabra. After obtaining her PhD in Biology from the University Autónoma de Madrid, she was a Research Associate at the Institute of Virology (Madison, USA). Since 2001 she leads the Molecular Virology group at the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences, Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She has received one Technology transfer award and two Teaching innovation awards by the Social Council of the UPF. 

Research interests

New and Emerging viruses such as SARS CoV-2, Denguevirus, Chikungunya virus or Zika virus are  major threats to human health. Because of their simplicity, viruses completely depend on the infected cell to multiply. The main research interest of our group is to decipher key aspects of this intimate interaction and to identify novel antiviral strategies that interfere with it. For this, we combine cellular and molecular technologies with cutting-edge âEURomics and systems biology approaches.
